Today wasn't as crazy a day as yesterday. Much slower paced. I'm so tired though cause my alarm went off and hour early for some reason and once I'm awake I can't get back to sleep. So I laid there till ten to seven and then I just got up. By the time I was done getting dressed and had had breakfast it was only 7:30 so I figured since I was ready I might as well go to work early.
I finally got all my pay documentation done today. I also took the oath of office so now I can't really talk much about what I do. That makes it hard cause I really don't know what I can and can't say.
Tomorrow is the internship orientation at the MacDonald Block near Queen's Park. As a result one of the interns emailed everyone and thought it would be a good idea if we all got together for dinner tonight because tomorrow doesn't seem to leave much room for networking. They proposed that the dinner be held at the Spring Rolls that Kate works at which I know isn't far from where I work. So I decided to go.
I made myself out a map so that I knew exactly where I was going. Knowing I was done work at 4:15 I also figured out what other places I could check out before I headed for dinner. The World's Biggest Bookstore is just across the street from the restaurant so I went there to hang out.
I was so tired and hungry by the time I got there I really didn't feel much like browsing if you could believe it. So I went across to the restaurant and sat on a bench in the mall till everyone showed up. I was flipping through the renters magazines I'd found.
At 5:30 I went in and met two girls both also working in the GTA. Then the masses arrived. We had a reservation for 10 and I think 20 showed up! We were worried that all 123 interns would show up. I got to know two guys who work in I and IT but none of them worked in my Ministry or in the same building. I also learned how good I have it. One girl talked about how she was backfilling someone's job which is a real no no. She said her manager and her mentor NEVER had time for her. It would appear that her department thinks she's a glorified coffee girl and that the internship program doesn't mean anything!
I'm truly lucky to have a friendly boss who is approachable and who truly wants me to grow and improve. As well as a fabulous director.
